Sarah Butters is a Shareholder at Ausley McMullen where she specializes in wills, trusts and estate. She is experienced in:
• trust and estates litigation; 
• sophisticated estate planning, including prenuptial agreements and business succession planning; 
• administration of probates, guardianship and trusts; and 
• formation and administration of charitable organizations.

Ms. Butters also serves as an Adjunct Professor at the Florida State University College of Law, where she has taught Gratuitous Transfers (the law of wills and trusts) since 2010.

Ms. Butters is on the Executive Committee for the Florida Bar's Real Property Probate and Trust Law Section and also serves as the Co-Chair of the Legislative Committee. She is also a Past President of the Estate Planning Council for the Tallahassee Region. 

Ms. Butters is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estates Counsel (ACTEC), where she serves on the Fiduciary Litigation, Legal Education and State Laws Committees. 

She is a frequent lecturer at state and national conferences. 


Peter Merrick is the author of three business text books for the professional trusted advisory audience on the topics of tax minimization, business succession, estate planning and executive benefits. The tittles of his books are: “The Essential Individual Pension Plan Handbook” “The T.A.S.K – The Trusted Advisor’s Survival Kit”, and A.S.K. –  Advisors Seeking Knowledge – A Comprehensive Guild to Succession and Estate Planning.

All of his books have been published by LexisNexis, a leading global authoritative provider of legal, accounting and risk management resources. His books are used in post-secondary programs for instruction in advanced financial, business succession and estate planning. These books are also found in educational libraries throughout the English-speaking world. His books have been referred to as “The Dr. Spock references for succession and estate planning experts, CPAs and the wealth and risk management communities.”

Peter is a professional financial writer, with over 600 published articles to his credit. His articles, writings and interviews have appeared in such magazines, newspapers and periodicals as The Wall Street Journal, Dow Jones, McLean’s, The Globe and Mail, The National Post, CPA Magazine, Lawyer’s Weekly, The Bottom Line, Profit Magazine, MoneySense Magazine, Moody’s Corporation and numerous publications for LexisNexis Inc., Thomson Reuters and CCH Ltd.

Peter is a full member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and holds the internationally recognized Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP) designation. He is also a Certified Financial Planner (CFP). In addition, he has been awarded the prestigious Fellowship of the Canadian Securities Institute (FCSI), which is recognized as Canada’s highest honor in the financial services industry.

Peter is a regular business and financial television commentator on the CTV Network.  He has also appeared on the CBC’s The National, CBC’s News Network, The City News Channel, BNN, Sun News Network and CP24.

During the past two decades, Peter has presented over 700 seminars, workshops and classes. Peter is most proud of his role in education, where he has lectured and created curriculum at several post-secondary institutions that meet the criteria for inclusion in multiple designations.  These designations include the Certified Financial Planner, CPA, Certified Human Resources Professional and Certified Employee Benefits Specialist designations. He has also authored several financial industry courses. Most of all, Peter enjoys being an active mentor in the area of business exit planning.

Peter’s current project is his fourth and upcoming book called “The King of Main Street.” The theme of this book is business succession planning through mentoring of our next generation of societal leaders.
