Dean F. “Chip” Chatlain is an Advanced Sales Consultant for Lincoln Financial Distributors. Chip has over 44 years of experience as a tax attorney, with over 37 years in the life insurance industry. After law school, he spent seven years as a trial attorney with Office of the Chief Counsel for the IRS. Prior to the merger of Lincoln National and Jefferson Pilot, he was corporate tax counsel for the Jefferson Pilot Financial group of companies.
Chip is a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University (B.A. Business and Economics) and Vanderbilt Law School (J.D.). Chip holds his FINRA Series 6 license and FLMI designation. He is admitted to both the Florida and North Carolina bars, and is a member of the tax section of both.
Chip combines a solid background in individual and corporate taxation with a thorough understanding of the tax advantages offered by the full range of Lincoln’s annuity, investment, life insurance, and long term care products. Chip is one of the inventors listed on US Patent 7,877,303, which was granted for the Lincoln LifeComp® Suite. The LifeComp® system provides illustrations, plan documents, and administrative services for business and personal split dollar arrangements.
He has been a member of the company and product tax committees of the ACLI, and has spoken on numerous occasions at the Forum 400 Annual Meeting, the AALU Annual Meeting, the Clinic for Advanced Professionals of the Society of Financial Service Professionals, the LIMRA Advanced Sales Meeting, and at the Federal Bar Association’s Insurance Tax Conference. At the present time, Chip has no immediate plans to retire.
