Case Law Update

Sarah S. Butters is a member of the Private Wealth Services Group of Holland & Knight. She is experienced in trust and estates litigation; the preparation of wills, trusts and prenuptial agreements; the administration of probates, guardianship and trusts; and the formation and administration of charitable organizations.
Trust and Estates Litigation. Ms. Butters has extensive experience in trust and estates litigation. She was recently recognized by her peers as a Rising Star among trust and estate litigators in Florida Super Lawyers magazine for 2010 and 2011.
Preparation and Administration of Wills and Trusts. A significant portion of Ms. Butters' practice includes the preparation of estate plans and the administration of probates, trusts and guardianships.
Charitable, Nonprofit and Tax-Exempt Organizations. Ms. Butters assists charities in obtaining their tax-exempt status and provides continued legal assistance to ensure charitable clients remain in compliance with IRS regulations regarding the administration of charitable entities. Ms. Butters' experience representing and advocating on behalf of nonprofit organizations is heavily supplemented by her volunteer work with charities. In the community, Ms. Butters serves several leadership positions, including:
- Past President of the Big Bend Business Leadership Network (a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to find employment for disabled persons)
- Board of Directors for Be the Solution, Inc. (a nonprofit, animal welfare organization)
- Professional Advisor to the Community Foundation of North Florida, the Florida State University Foundation and the Florida State University Seminole Boosters, Inc.
Commitment to the Profession. Ms. Butters serves on the executive council of the Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section of The Florida Bar and is also an at large member representing the Second Judicial Circuit. Ms. Butters also serves as the immediate past president of the Tallahassee Regional Estate Planning Council, where she provides an annual legislative and case law review of changes to tru
